This morning, my sink delivered an unexpected but powerful message.
For months, it’s been on edge—draining more slowly and occasionally making strange gurgling noises. It was on our to-do list, but it kept getting pushed aside as other tasks felt more urgent. Today, while brushing my teeth and washing my face, the sink decided it was time to demand attention.
As I chuckled at the timing—since today felt far from convenient—I realized there was a deeper lesson in this small annoyance.
So often in life, we do the same thing with our health and well-being. We notice signs—physical symptoms, emotional struggles—but push them down with good intentions, planning to address them “later.” Yet somehow, other priorities always seem to come first. If you’re like me or many of my clients, you might find yourself regularly putting others’ needs ahead of your own.
But what happens when we ignore these signs for too long? Just like the sink, things back up and overflow. We get sick. We feel pain. We’re unable to get out of bed. Emotions erupt into tears, anger, or complete shutdown. Eventually, our bodies and minds force us to take notice. Usually at the worst time.
This time of year is always interesting as a coach—December often carries the “wait until January for the New Year, New You” mindset. But that very approach is exactly what has lead to the issues we are facing for ignoring the warning signs and not taking action NOW.
I love working with new clients in November and December because they’re ready to make a change. They’re determined to feel better and get unstuck, refusing to let anything hold them back. Even when it feels uncomfortable, they take that first step. And the results they see by January? Inspiring.
I hope my sink’s message inspires you today. Let today be the day you tackle that thing you’ve been putting off. Go for a walk. Make a healthier choice for dinner. Get to bed early. Prioritize self-care and give yourself the chance to recharge.
Not sure where to start? I’d love to help. Send me a message, and we’ll set up a time to chat!
