I’ve enjoyed the practice of reading through Proverbs, and a proverb a day based on the date. Every time I come to Proverbs 14:4, it resonates so deeply in me during this season of motherhood and littles.
“The only clean stable is an empty stable. So if you want the work of an ox and to enjoy an abundant harvest, you’ll have a mess or two to clean up.”
Oh the messes are plentiful that’s for sure! But I’m thankful that the Lord is shifting my perspective. That I have days I am able to see past a room full of toilet paper and see hours of fun and play and creativity as the kids crawl, jump, and limbo and encourage me to do the same.
This house isn’t meant to be HGTV, rather I get to enjoy the beautiful gift of their creativity with the artwork covering our doors, and the lego builds proudly displayed on tables and bookshelves. The harvest far outweighs the mess and the work.
Don’t be fooled, I still lose my cool when I find I have no counter space to make dinner, or I can’t have a straight path to walk through a room. However, I have learned often those symptoms of frustration are related to stressful situations, or that I went to bed too late the night before. It’s just an opportunity for me to be aware of what’s really going on internally and the reminder to be processing through it.
So mama embrace the mess in your stable today…know that you are doing good work and have a rich harvest.
Side note- our MomCo group is starting our monthly meetups again come September, and we’d love to have new moms join us. @Let me know if you are looking for a mom community because we would love to have you!
